Cyberspies Prove Jay Rockefeller Is Smarter Than He Thinks

Frakkin’ imagine this story coming out just days after JayRocke put S773 and S778 out to give Hitler 2.0 power to shut down the internet/networks anytime the fascist wants.

From WSJ:

Electricity Grid in U.S. Penetrated by Spies

WASHINGTON — Cyberspies have penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system, according to current and former national-security officials.

The spies came from China, Russia and other countries, these officials said, and were believed to be on a mission to navigate the U.S. electrical system and its controls. The intruders haven’t sought to damage the power grid or other key infrastructure, but officials warned they could try during a crisis or war.

“The Chinese have attempted to map our infrastructure, such as the electrical grid,” said a senior intelligence official. “So have the Russians.”

The espionage appeared pervasive across the U.S. and doesn’t target a particular company or region, said a former Department of Homeland Security official. “There are intrusions, and they are growing,” the former official said, referring to electrical systems. “There were a lot last year.

Many of the intrusions were detected not by the companies in charge of the infrastructure but by U.S. intelligence agencies, officials said. Intelligence officials worry about cyber attackers taking control of electrical facilities, a nuclear power plant or financial networks via the Internet.

Authorities investigating the intrusions have found software tools left behind that could be used to destroy infrastructure components, the senior intelligence official said. He added, “If we go to war with them, they will try to turn them on.”

Officials said water, sewage and other infrastructure systems also were at risk.

“Over the past several years, we have seen cyberattacks against critical infrastructures abroad, and many of our own infrastructures are as vulnerable as their foreign counterparts, ” Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair recently told lawmakers. “A number of nations, including Russia and China, can disrupt elements of the U.S. information infrastructure.”

<snip>

Last week, Senate Democrats introduced a proposal that would require all critical infrastructure companies to meet new cybersecurity standards and grant the president emergency powers over control of the grid systems and other infrastructure.

Specialists at the U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit, a nonprofit research institute, said attack programs search for openings in a network, much as a thief tests locks on doors. Once inside, these programs and their human controllers can acquire the same access and powers as a systems administrator.

The White House review of cybersecurity programs is studying ways to shield the electrical grid from such attacks, said James Lewis, who directed a study for the Center for Strategic and International Studies and has met with White House reviewers.

Do you believe this propaganda?

Nope…not for a minute! It is BS so that this bill will pass. It is just another way to scare the shit of the non-represnetatives in DC….what asshats!

  2. They’re such sneaky bastards. I hope there’s a nice warm place in hell for all of them.

  3. If the US Intelligence community can find these hacks, they can remove them and prevent further intrusion. It’s as simple as that. It’s the ones we can’t find we need to worry about, but I guess that’s the risk you run when you export the entire computer industry to other countries.

The reality is what Navyvet48 says – no such problems. I can see another scenario, though: tell Congress the grids have been hacked and we must develop a commission to fix the problems. Then you tell every ESO, broadcaster, and ISP that they must submit to a government audit of their systems, and voila! Big Brother has access to everything and can cut off our electricity, gas, water, TV. radio, internet when we do things like hold Tea Parties (or anything else TPTB dislike).

I don’t think it’s such a good idea to get CSIS in on the act in any event.

  5. The following is a quote from a friend in Sacramento who leads a meetup group. I’ve only included a portion of what he wrote because it is long. His words speak to my passion and patriotism. But to stop these bastards is going to take more than sitting at a keyboard. April 15 will be the commencement of the gathering on our American soil. There are millions of patriots in this great country who are as mad as hell!

The author of the above quote has asked that I give this email address: OneFederation@hotmail.com.

“Congress shows us which side they are on! Every day a new bill is presented to deny us our right to free speech! Free assembly, the right to keep and bear arms! Even the right to grow our own food! Everyday the plotters under the dome in Washington gather in dark rooms, behind closed doors and plot our enslavement and the curtailing of our Freedoms and inalienable Rights! Let them hear your voice America! Let them hear the roar that will be heard around the world! The roar of 300 million independent, tough necked, strong minded Americans! Tyranny, despotism and socialism? Not in our land! Not in our time! Not ever! The phoenix shall rise and She shall burn to cinders all those who plot her destruction with the eternal fire of the American Will, the American Heart and the American Spirit!”

  6. This should have gone at the end of the above quote:

  7. O/T, but did you happen to see this?

Setting up fronts to sell nuclear materials to Iran through “unwitting” NY banks. Unwitting my a$$! These bastages are trying to start WWIII on top of everything else! Better strap yourselves in – it’s gonna be a long, rough ride!

  8. Hey, just what we need! More bureaucratic power than they already have! LOL

You beat me to the post. This is what I call an Intentional Coincidence. JRocke introduces the legislation. Then comes the invented crisis, reported by an ex-Homeland Security official, unnamed. Next week, Pampers’ cybersecurity report comes out which will simultaneously corroborate JRocke’s concerns, cite the fake cyberattacks, and recommend that sweeping new legislation be passed that will authorize the Resident to take strong action to stop these fake cyberattacks with his mind while being granted the ability to access and control the security protocols of all public and private networks.

It certainly wouldn’t make us vulnerable to give that kind of power to a man who subserviently bowed to the head of the Saudi royal family…

Good post. If people like you don’t point out the crap that is going on with our government right now, I am afraid that a lot of us would just dismiss. That is my fear.Already, I have been called an alarmist for pointing out certain things and tendencies. We must trust our guts and my gut tells me that America is in a great deal of trouble with this puppet in charge!

  11. Sunshinelvr says:

    * dismiss ‘it’. sorry for the typo/
